A Simple Rule of Thumb
On Sunday we studied Matthew 7:12, otherwise known as the Golden Rule:
“So in everything , do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”
In one simple statement, Jesus sums up the entire Old Testament. Furthermore, He wants us to take the initiative in fulfilling this command. We are not to wait on others to show kindness, compassion, empathy, and love to us before we do the same to them. Jesus says that in order to live the kingdom life, we are to think about how we want to be treated, and then go do that for someone else. I believe that if we will follow this simple rule of thumb, it will change our lives. It will change the lives of those around us. It will even change the lives of the difficult people in our lives. We will be living the kingdom life. Have you put this simple rule of thumb into practice yet this week? If you have, then share your story with us.
On another note, I spent the night last night at The Ballpark watching the Rangers beat the Tigers (actually, I only saw one inning). I was attending a gathering of men starting churches in the D/FW area and we were sharing the visions that God has given to each one of us for our churches. It was humbling to see how our God is moving in the Metroplex and extending His kingdom. The best part…we get to be a part of it!
